Design at the size it prints.
Baselumen's designer draws on artboards measured in millimetres, with bleed, a millimetre grid and rulers. Vector tools, type, images and masks; a library filed by client; and a push that puts the finished artwork into a Terminal site's assets.
The design system in numbers
Real trim sizes. In millimetres.
The sheet is drawn at its trim size, and every coordinate in a design is its printed position. Zoom changes how big the sheet looks, never the numbers, so what you edit is what the export writes. A European card is 85 × 55 mm and a US card 3.5 × 2 in, and they are not interchangeable.
- Bleed drawn as a dashed trim line over the art: anything outside it is what the guillotine takes. Logos start on a transparent sheet with no bleed; cards and print start on paper.
- A rigid grid: 5 mm cells in five, 1 mm minor, snap on by default, so snapped edges land on whole millimetres.
- Rulers count millimetres from the sheet's corner and band the selection; guides pulled off a ruler are stored as millimetres.
- One View menu for zoom (to fit, 50%, 100%, 200%, or ⌘ + and ⌘ −), the grid and the shortcuts.
Document
Two shapes, one path. Boolean operations.
Select two forms and combine them: unite, subtract, intersect and exclude, on keys 1 to 4. Curves are flattened at 0.02 mm before clipping — a fifth of a 300dpi pixel — and the result is written back as a single path.
- A context menu that lists only what the selection can take: combine, convert, mask, flip, order, lock.
- Convert to path, outline a stroke, offset by millimetres, simplify, join, average and reverse.
- Compound paths, and clipping masks made from any rectangle, ellipse or path.
- Direct selection shows every anchor; a chosen one shows its handles.
Arrange
2 selected — aligning moves them against each other. One shape selected — aligning moves it against the artboard.
Subtract takes the bottom shape minus the ones above it. The result replaces its sources as one path — and as one undo. Select two or more shapes. Type and images have no outline to combine; convert or crop them first.
26 tools in one grid. Each on a key.
The Tools section heads the inspector: three rows of nine, a hairline between each family — select, draw, shapes, cut, transform, paint and view. The line under the grid names the tool under the pointer, gives its key and says what a drag does with it.
- Pen, pencil and the anchor tools: click for a corner, drag for a curve, add, delete and convert points.
- Scissors, knife, eraser and a shape builder that merges overlapping regions as you drag across them.
- Rotate, reflect, scale and shear about an origin you place, by drag or by a typed value, applied or copied.
- Gradient, eyedropper, hand and zoom. Hold Space for the hand with any tool. Keys: V A Q P + − ⇧C N T \ M L C ⇧E ⇧M R O S G I H Z.
One panel for the selected thing. Every field a unit.
The inspector shows the shape that is selected, the shared controls when several are, and the document when nothing is. Every field is a millimetre, a point or a degree, and each change is one undo step.
-
Transform and stroke
Position, size and rotation in millimetres; corner radius on a rectangle. Strokes solid, dashed, fine, dotted or a cut line, with flat, round or square ends.
-
Type
Specified in points and placed in millimetres. The Text styles panel is one scale — 8 / 10 / 12 / 16 / 22 / 34 pt — and the typeface is a document setting. Double-click a box to type on the artboard.
-
Images and masks
Images fit or fill their box, and the inspector reads out the resolution at the size placed — under 300dpi, it says so. A picture clipped to a circle is one group, editable after.
-
Colour
10 swatches: Baselumen's blue ramp, its yellow and four neutrals, with a client's brand colours in front when the design carries them. 6 gradient presets, linear or radial, any number of stops.
-
Layers, shapes, effects
Front to back with lock and hide on every row; parametric polygons, stars, bursts, rings and wedges; grain, distortion, blur and a drop shadow rendered as filters, never baked.
-
Export and shortcuts
SVG at trim, SVG to the clipboard, PNG at 300dpi for print or 72dpi for screen — whole artboard or the selection. 63 shortcuts in seven groups; press ? to open them.
The library, filed by client. Every save a version.
Every artboard in the workspace, grouped under the client it was made for. Search names and clients, sort by date, name or size, switch between grid and list, and narrow to one client. Thumbnails are the documents themselves.
- A snapshot is taken on every save and every few minutes while you work. Version history marks the ones an agent made and draws the chosen one before you restore it.
- Restoring keeps what was on the canvas as a snapshot of its own. Undo and redo for every discrete edit; a drag is one step, not fifty. Saved in the browser and synced to the workspace; the row says which.
- New design starts a blank artboard on any preset, or one of 8 templates, named and filed under a client before it opens.
Push to a Terminal site. Proposed first.
Push sends the artboard to a site in Terminal as an asset. Choose the site first — the design's own client's sites are listed first — then the mode. Propose is the default: it reports what would happen and changes nothing.
- Execute uploads the artwork as cleaned SVG into the site's asset library, where the site's designer picks it up.
- The design is saved before every push, and every run is recorded with its mode and outcome.
- A site filed under an archived client takes no new artwork, and the push says why.
Agents use the designer's own operations. One revision a batch.
Your own agent connects to Baselumen's MCP server and edits designs with the same 14 drawing operations the designer runs. A batch is saved as one revision, and stops at the first operation that fails without saving anything. Baselumen runs no model of its own.

How it connects. One account, every system.
- Terminal A push puts the artwork in a Terminal site’s asset library, served from Stacklumen’s own CDN, ready to place on a page.
- Components Components copy into Terminal and pin to a site’s designer shelf, beside the artwork pushed from here.
- Agents One MCP server answers for designs, components and the workspace. An agent can create a design, draw on it and propose a push without opening the app.
- The tool system Converters, generators and graders on the same account and plan.
- The platform How the component, tool and design systems fit together.
Draw it once, at the size it prints.
Start from a template or a blank artboard, file it under a client, and push it to the site.
